Welcome, I am Kim Holland, your child’s AIG teacher. This school year begins my 20th year of teaching. I began teaching 4th grade at Fuquay-Varina Elementary until transitioning to the world of AIG 10 years ago. I continued in my role as an AIG teacher with the opening Oakview Elementary. I went to Campbell University receiving both my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education with an Academically Gifted certification.
My husband Will and I live in the Holly Springs community with our three children and active GSP (German Shorthaired Pointer), Buie. Collins is a 7th grader at Apex Friendship Middle School and our twins, Channing and Colton are 5th graders here at Oakview. I spend a lot of time taking my kiddos to volleyball, baseball and soccer practices throughout the week. When I am not an Uber driver for my kids, I enjoy spending time with my family, shopping and exercising.
I feel incredibly honored to work with the gifted population at Oakview Elementary. I not only provide enriching learning opportunities, but I work to advance students' social emotional skills, and strengthen their organization and management. We explore curriculum through the lens of real world experiences and application. It is extremely valuable to know the “WHY” behind it all. I am looking forward to having a great year with your child!
Hello! My name is Katie Barnes and I am one of your child’s AIG teachers at Oakview Elementary.
I am a North Carolina native - I was raised in New Bern, graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill, and then moved to Wake County to begin my teaching career. I am both AIG certified and K-12 Reading certified. My experience as an educator includes 20 years with Wake County Public Schools as a classroom teacher in 3rd and 4th grades and as a literacy specialist. I am thrilled to be supporting students as they strive to establish a growth mindset, reach goals, and develop as life-long learners.
When I am not teaching, I love to spend my time with my husband, Stu, and our three daughters, Sloane (17), Ashley (15), and Ellis (13). I also enjoy being with friends and family, exercising, yoga, reading, watching movies, going to the beach, and listening to live music.
