Test FAQ
How many questions are on the test?
The number of questions varies from test to test and we do not have access to the test ahead of the administration. The test is designed so that students who have an understanding of the curriculum can complete the test within the 90-minute time limit.
What will testing look like for my 1st to 5th grade student?
Students in 1st through 5th grade will take an online test. On the test day, we will walk students through the login process and what to expect. All SSA testing will be administered in the building where the student is enrolled according to Powerschools.
A 1st-5th grade student in mathematics must earn a minimum of 80% accuracy on the above grade level comprehensive assessment. The assessments have open response questions.
In English/Language Arts all students must earn >85% correct on Acceleration Assessment AND score proficient (level 4) on scored writing prompt for elementary school.
What does testing look like for my Kindergarten student?
Kindergarten students looking to skip first grade math, the student must receive a proficient score on each of the individual constructed response tasks without assistance.
Kindergarten students looking to skip first grade ELA, will be assessed using MClass and a written prompt.
When will we find out our results?
Results are shared with the school before the end of the 2023-2024 school year. We will share results with you as quickly as possible. Placement does not start until the 2024-2025 school year.
My student is already in AIG, can they still be SSA?
Yes, they can. We have students who are in both the SSA and AIG program as well as students who are only in AIG or only in SSA. Students who are in both will attend AIG classes with their regular grade-level peers, not their SSA class.
What Curriculum is Covered?
The tests will cover the NC curriculum standards for each grade level. For your convenience, links to the materials are listed below. Please be sure to look at the test for the grade level your student is looking to skip, not their current grade level material.
NC Math Standards - The Unpacking Documents include examples of what is being assessed for each standards. Many parents find those to be helpful.
