Providing all young people equal opportunity to receive a quality public education is a moral imperative for our society.
Social studies education should engage students in critical thinking about history, government, and economics.
High school students need to be pushed to develop strong decision making and communication skills for the future.
The classroom should be a safe space where both students and teacher are respected and supported.
Teenagers need to balance their academic, extracurricular, and personal activities to thrive as young adults.
I am a North Carolina native, born and raised in Wilmington. My husband and I have lived in the Triangle, mostly in Durham, since we graduated from college. I majored in Sociology and Journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill and earned my master’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem. I joined the Leesville Social Studies department in 2004 and became National Board Certified in 2009. Mr. Mosley teaches middle school math in Cary, bless him. We both come from teaching families – my mother was an elementary teacher and his father was a high school principal. We have a son in 34th grade and a daughter in 1st grade at LES. In addition to teaching Social Studies, I am also the Wake NCAE Secretary and a Red4EdNC Board member. My hobbies include graphic design, photography, singing, and making playlists.
