Music at MCES with Mrs. Volpe
Welcome to Our Music Classroom Website
This year, your child will attend weekly music classes with lessons created to develop each individual student's musicality. The sequenced music instruction will help your child develop musical skills in musical literacy, musical response, and contextual relevancy. The curriculum is based on various styles of musical concepts from around the world and links these concepts across other subject areas when applicable.
The digital QuaverEd Music curriculum is fun and engaging and offers lessons to help students make connections and relate to a variety of other cultures and musical concepts.
Music is for everyone! Students will be engaged in whole brain music activities, playing a variety of instruments, reading and creating music, and always focusing on being a Musical Person.
Parents/Guardians you can also support music learning at home by listening to music together and talking about what you hear in the music or how the music makes you feel. Ask your child to sing a song they learned in music class or attend a local concert. These discussions and attending local performances help students develop an appreciation for music, as well as foster appropriate audience behavior. These musical experiences make music more meaningful for your child at home, school, and in our community.
Our music concepts focus on the following music concepts based on the North Carolina Essential Standards:
Musical Literacy:
Apply the elements of music and musical techniques in order to sing and play music with accuracy and expression.
Interpret the sound and symbol systems of music.
Create music using a variety of sound and notational sources.
Musical Response:

Contextual Relevancy:
