Hey 7th graders! I am so excited to be your teacher this year! This is my sixth year at Salem and my 11th year teaching. Before moving to Wake County, I taught for 4 years in Orange County and 1 year in Maryland, my home state. I attended the University of Maryland for my undergraduate degree, where I majored in Middle School Math and Science Education. In December, 2021 I completed my master's degree in Curriculum and Developmental Supervision at NC State. When I was in 6th grade, I hated math. Then, one day in 7th grade, my teacher helped me to see that solving equations was really just like solving puzzles. From then on, math became my favorite subject! I hope to help you learn to love it too. When I'm not teaching, I love to travel, spend time with friends and family, and generally anything outdoors. I am so excited to have you in my class this year, and I can't wait to get to know all of you too!

Open-Up Resources is the curriculum resource that provides the backbone of this 7th grade math course. On this web page you will find helpful summaries of major topics from each unit in our curriculum. It is important to note that we will supplement with additional learning activities where it is necessary to better suit the needs of each student.
From here you can access Powerschool, your student email, Google Classroom, and other learning resources too! This is the one site we will use where you will have to remember a password! As long as you can access WakeID, you can access anything else we will use!
This is your student email that you will use any time you need to contact one of your teachers. If you haven't checked your email lately, you'll want to start doing this frequently.
This is your main learning platform where you will find your assignments, access class information, and receive feedback on your work. You can also use this site to communicate with me or with your classmates when you are not at school!
Each of the sites below can be added to the "Classlink Backpack" in WakeID. This way, students don't have to memorize another password. As long as they are logged into WakeID, they can log into any of the sites below without a password.
Many of our live and independent sessions will involve using Desmos for some fun and collaborate activities. Desmos also works as a calculator, so you'll want to bookmark it so you can find it easily.
Chances are that most students have used Khan Academy in some capacity in previous years. We will use Khan Academy primarily as a resource for helpful videos, but Khan Academy can also be an excellent source of practice problems for students who are trying to study
Delta Math is an online resource that provides many practice problems for students to solidify their skills and explore new concepts. This year, students will also find helpful videos for each assigned skill in case they get stuck. Students will have weekly graded assignments in Delta Math.
IXL is an online resource that provides access to fluency-based practice problems on a wide range of grade levels. Not all students will be using IXL this year. We will use IXL to help some students master basic skills through repetition, as well as to assist students who may have gaps in their learning from earlier grade levels.
