3rd Grade Reading and Math

Third graders will begin Explorers classes Sept. 11  Initially they will learn about analogies and verbal concepts, then quantitative concepts, and finally elements of spatial knowledge and analogous change.  This is to prepare them for CogAt testing in November.  Each class of third grade will have one lesson a week with me.  Looking forward to meeting them all!

Sept 11-14  Students learned what an analogy is and how it can work with objects, ideas, and words.  Next week we will apply that to mathematical situations.

Sept 18-21  Students worked this week with math analogies and finding the unknown in some number puzzles.

Sept 25-29  Students will review answers from last week's work and also solve numbers in a series, figuring out the pattern that is present.

Oct 2-5  Students begin work with  spatial problems, working with shapes and visualization of what objects will look like after undergoing change.

October 16 - 20  Students get a visit from someone from history to learn about place value!

October  23 - 26  Students participated in an exercise about stereotypes.  They found that their ideas about different places in the world were not complete.  To be continued...

Oct 30 - 31  One more quick review before CogAt testing!

I will be meeting with all 3rd grade classes this semester, doing various activities and helping prepare them for testing in November and December.
