Communication
Email - I primarily communicate through email. My email address is jschuman@wcpss.net I reserve the right for 24-48 hours to respond to emails.
Teacher Conferences - Teacher conferences are available upon parent or teacher request. We may have a phone or video conference to discuss any concerns we may have.
Newsletters - I communicate Newsletters and pertinent Wake County documentation/communication through email. An initial 'Welcome' is sent out at the beginning of the year via the emails provided to the school. If you do not receive it within the first 2 weeks of school, please email me with your most current email address.
CANVAS - We will utilize CANVAS for In-Person instruction. It is the responsibility of the student to 'turn in' assignments by the due dates, typically Sunday by 8 pm. Parents/Guardians are responsible for staying abreast of their child's participation/assignments. You will automatically be enrolled as their Guardian IF you have accepted an invite as Guardian from your child's classroom teacher's CANVAS course within the 10 days of receiving a unique code. If you do not have access as Guardian to your child's AIG CANVAS course, please email me.
Homework
There is not a policy for AIG/Enrichment/Nurture homework, however, as an AIG student, your child should have a desire to challenge themselves through the lessons/activities provided. If your child desires to challenge themselves beyond completing our CANVAS assignments, please feel free to have them delve into the Adams SOARING through the Summer Activities linked in the 'Parent Resources' page of my site.

Currently enrolled and attending Wake County Public School System students meeting qualifying criteria in grades K‐7 can take advanced academic content in mathematics or English Language Arts through Single Subject Acceleration (SSA). This ensures opportunities for appropriate levels of academic challenge. Only students who are currently enrolled and attending a WCPSS school during the open nomination and testing window are eligible to be considered for SSA.
SSA allows students to show mastery of content in select elementary or middle school courses. Students who prove mastery do not have to take the course and may move on to the next level.
Parents may nominate their child to skip a grade level of content in either English Language Arts or mathematics.
Students are nominated for SSA by their parents or guardians. They will be assessed at their school based upon grade level. Depending on grade level and subject, this could include a multiple-choice test and/or a writing sample. Your school will have more specific information about this process once your child is nominated.
