We use the EL curriculum to guide our instruction. Below are some suggestions on how parents can best support their child:
1. Encourage them to read daily for at least 20 -30 minutes (yes on weekends too).
2. Don't assume they are always reading on their own- check in on them regularly regarding their reading!
3. Hold them accountable! Ask them questions, read a chapter with them at bedtime and see if they can summarize what is going on so far in the book.Â
4. Make sure your child is choosing "Good Fit" books that are within their Lexile level. Lexile levels can be checked at This Link.
5. Take your child to the public library and encourage them to select from a variety of genres. Wake County Libraries has a great app called Libby in which your child can read or listen to books on their device.
