We have been working really hard in our classroom to learn our sight words for the school year! Sight words are the most common words in beginning reader text. They are to be memorized since most do not follow typical phonetic patterns. Please help your child by initiating fun activities using the word lists I’ve included provided each week for their Rainbow Words assessments.
**The end of year goal for your child is 75 words. Here are a few ideas to get you started….
Paint the words with water colors.
Write letters on lima beans and spell the words.
Find words in a magazine or cereal box.
Download sight word apps on your tablet or phone.
Use the cards like flashcards and quiz your child each night. Put a check mark on the ones that he/she knows. After 5 check marks, the words can come out of the stack. Add new words.
Sticky note the words to the windows or doors of the house.
Say it, spell it, say it.
Write sentences with the words.
Find the words in books.
Use refrigerator magnets to spell the words.
Type the words or sentences on the computer.
Write the words on tape and stick them on a ball to play catch.
Thank you! Mrs. Rogers
