I have a strong belief in building a safe, loving and caring community for all students. Social and emotional learning will be embedded throughout lessons in my classroom. Students will also engage in morning and afternoon meetings with a weekly focus on social and emotional characteristics as well as equity. For example, one of my favorite focuses for morning meeting is perseverance. Students begin the meeting by greeting others while balancing a book on their heads (without dropping it). Students then engage in a discussion on what perseverance is, its importance and how we can use perseverance every day. Lastly, we end our meeting with a minute to win it activity that students must persevere in a silly challenge in which they have only a minute to complete. In my classroom, students build relationships with others and build confidence within themselves.
