Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Darlene Blake, and I am so excited to be your child’s teacher. During the year, I will be teaching your child 6th grade Math or Math Art.
This is my 1st year teaching at Carnage Middle School. Before my time at this school, I have taught for 14 years at Sterling Montessori Academy and Charter. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with a Minor in Statistics years ago, and recently decided to go back to college and this past May graduated with my Master’s degree in Mathematics, a Master’s degree in STEM Education and a Teaching Certification in Mathematics. All four of these degrees I earned from NC State University. Outside of teaching, I enjoy going to movies, the beach, Disney World, traveling, and spending time with my family and pets!
Throughout the year, it is important to have a strong parent-teacher relationship. If at any time you have any questions or concerns please contact me. You can email me at dhblake@wcpss.net or call me within the classroom, if necessary. Also, please check my website (which is not currently developed and available, but I will send you the link when it is accessible). On this website I will post homework assignments as well as important updates. I will update my page as much as possible with reminders, news, homework, and other information that might be helpful.
Also, since I am actively teaching throughout the day, I usually do not check my emails except before 6:45am and after 4pm weekdays. Therefore, if it is an emergency, it may be necessary for you to call the school and leave a message, instead of sending an email. I will try to answer emails the same day I receive them except during the weekends, which will usually be answered on Monday.
If your child is absent on a school day, please send in a written note with your child the next day he/she is back on campus, explaining the reasons for the absence. Your child will take that note straight to the office the first morning back after their absence and hand the note to the office staff, who will let them know the procedure.
I am thrilled to be starting on this year’s journey with your children! I look forward to watching them learn, grow and have a fantastic time at Carnage!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Darlene Blake
