Second graders will be going through the county screening process for AIG identification, this was new as of last school year. Second grade students will be administered the COGAT test in the fall. Students scoring at or above the 85 percentile on the COGAT test will take the IOWA test. There is also a portfolio process for identification into the AIG program which consists of teacher anecdotes, quarterly assessments, work samples, and other standardized test scores.
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students already identified will receive services this school year. If you want your student nominated for the AIG identification process please contact me at: bbussey@wcpss.net.
AIG/IG/AG
What is the difference between Intellectually Gifted (IG), Academically Gifted (AG) or Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG)? The designation of IG,AG, or AIG comes from the data used for student identification. All are served in the exact same way and no designation is considered higher or more advanced than the other.
Talent Development vs. AIG
If a student has been nominated for the AIG program and does not receive the 17 points on the portfolio, he or she may be chosen to join the talent development program. This means that the child will be invited to join AIG with his or her peers in hopes that with nurturing, they will qualify for AIG. The AIG teacher looks through data all school year for talent development students to continually assess if they obtain the 17 points on the portfolio needed to be identified as AIG.
Reciprocity
If your child was identified as gifted in a previous school or district outside of Wake County please email me at bbussey@wcpss.net! He or she could qualify for AIG services through Wake County Public Schools.
