There will be no additional homework this year. However, students are required to complete their class work in a timely basis (which could run into work that they might need to bring home).
Students will receive a weekly agenda (via email to parents) on Sundays with daily work assignments listed for math, EL, Letterland, and science/social studies. Students will receive a physical copy of the same agenda on Mondays so that they can keep track of their work. This work is the work that should be completed at school each day, not necessarily at home.
This way, you will stay informed on what your child should complete. There are additional in class activities students will do throughout each school day, but this should help! Any critical feedback about your child's assignments will be communicated in a timely matter through email or phone call (if needed).
This should help to ensure that your child has the opportunity to re- do assignments if needed, to not get behind on assignments, and to be ready for a brand new week that is coming up!
***To keep up with learning, it is suggested that each night your child reads for 20 minutes (of a book or pages of their choice) and studies their weekly Letterland words.
***Sometimes an additional math sheet will also be sent home with the skill(s) we are working on. Your child may complete this, but it is not required and does not need to be turned in unless you'd like me to double check it.
Do you want to do something extra to celebrate your love of learning?
If you are up for the extra challenge, complete the 40 book challenge created by Mrs. Johnson in 2nd grade!
The purpose of this reading challenge is to read 10 books a quarter (9 weeks). Studies show kids that read different kinds of books learn a stronger love of reading and kids that learn to read in turn read more. As a result, kids who read more become stronger readers. Let's work on this together all year!
1. Let your child choose a book from the 40 book Challenge list below, and read it together.
They can read a page, and you read a page. Talk about the book as you read, look at the pictures.
2. Discuss what you like about the book what you didn't like.
3. Record the book on the 40 book Challenge Sheet.
