I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 5th grade and tell you a little about myself. I graduated from Salisbury State University in 1995. I became National Board Certified in Early Adolescence Science in 2011 and renewed in 2021. My first public school job was teaching 3rd & 4th grades combined at Carver Elementary in Wendell. Then, I taught 5th grade at Olive Chapel Elementary for three years. I opened Holly Ridge Middle in 2003 and taught 6th grade ELA, Math, Science, and Reading Intervention for seventeen years. I came to Apex Elementary in 2020.
On a more personal note, I grew up in Salisbury, Maryland. I have lived in Wake County since 1996. My husband, Mike, and I have an 18 year old son named Bateman. During free time I like to camp, watch movies and shows, shop, play with my Chihuahua, and listen to live music with friends.
Just as I do for my own child, I set high expectations for ALL of the children in my classroom. I strive to give students the support they need in order to be successful. Students will learn social skills as well as academic skills this school year and become responsible for their own behavior and learning. We will work together as a class to create a positive and safe learning environment. I look forward to meeting and working with you and your children!
