EL  &

Letterland

Here is what we will be learning about in English this year:

Quarter 1: Schools & Community

Quarter 2: Learning Through Science and Story: Fossils Tell of Earth's Changes

Quarter 3: Researching to Build Knowledge and Teach Others: The Secret World of Pollination

Quarter 4: Providing for Pollinators

What Will You Do?

There are 3 units in each topic of EL.  In unit 1, you will connect and complete work based off of personal experiences.  In unit 2, you will learn about the community and world around you and complete works.  In unit 3, you will combine your personal experiences with what you learned about the world around you to create a written performance piece.  Then we end each quarter by sharing our writing with a kindergarten class or another audience !

All About Letterland

Letterland is how we learn to spell, and it helps us with our reading and writing.  We will learn about each letter of the alphabet and the different sounds that they make.  Each letter is represented by a different character (picture) that will help us remember what we are learning about.

For 4 days, we will complete lessons and activities based on our letter, and on the 5th day, we will complete an assessment (not counting towards your report card) to see if we should move on to the next.  There will be whole group lessons.  Then, later in the day there will be small group lessons (or independent work time) for 30 minutes.  Check out the video below to meet some of our Letterland characters!
