Weekly Emails

6 Sep 2021-10 Sep 2021

Hello,

My name is Mr. Williams and if you're receiving this then I am your child's Math teacher for the Fall 2021 semester! So far, we are off to a strong start. Up until this point, we have been reviewing and recovering math skills that may have been lost over the Summer and we have been using tables, graphs, and formulas to model sequences as explicit and recursive equations. We will continue to work on explicit and recursive equations this Wednesday and Thursday, leading to a quiz on Friday.

If you would like to see what your child has been working on in class, they have been instructed to maintain workbooks and to complete daily homework assignments. Feel free to check these out as well as our course page on Canvas. These workbooks are the primary source of information and practice problems in our classes, so it is imperative that each student brings their workbook and fills them out each day in class. These will be periodically taken up and checked for a grade based on effort put into completing them. The homework assignments are given through Canvas, our learning management system, so they are expected to bring their Chromebooks and chargers to class every day. I typically give my students an upwards of 20 minutes to work on these assignments in class so they may ask questions and reduce the amount of work they have to do outside of school. I ask that you please periodically check in with your child to ensure that they are completing their assignments in a timely fashion or are reaching out for help if they run into difficulties they cannot handle alone.

Any missing assignments will be put in as a 0 until it is turned in, or until the cutoff for late work has been reached at the end of each grading period. I will email the parent(s)/guardian(s) of any student that has an excess of missing assignments, or whose grade has fallen to a F(60% or below).

As a few closing reminders, the Wakefield High School policy states that students are not to have cell phones out or headphones in during class for any reason. Additionally, students are required to wear their masks at all times unless currently eating or if they have a medical exemption. Masks should be worn over the nose and under the chin, covering the entire lower face. Failure to comply with these policies will result in disciplinary action.

I'm happy to be working with your student to help them grow during this stage of their academic career! I look forward to seeing you Thursday evening for our virtual Meet The Parents night! If you have any questions or concerns, please send me an email separate from this thread and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
