9/22-26
As we enter our final week of the 1st Quarter students will have one final project to complete. This week students will work on "Steps to Revolution" project. This is a timeline project where students will work in small groups creating a timeline of the various events that led to the American Revolution. Core 1 and 2 will have classroom guidance on Tuesday 9/23 and Core 3 and 4 will have It on Thursday 9/25.
9/15-9/19
We will spend this week researching various events that led to the American Revolution. Students will be investigating the Boston Massacre, the battles of Lexington and Concord, and the Declaration of Independence. Any students who are missing States/Capitals or US Geography quizzes have until this Friday 9/19 to get these made up. Students have been reminded of this and can use time during class, before school, or during lunch.
9/8-9/12
Students have Monday and Tuesday to complete their 13 colonies projects, they are due no later than Wednesday 9/10. The later part of the week students will investigate the French and Indian War, the Proclamation of 1763, and how both of these events led to the beginning of the American Revolution. Students have French and Indian War Video Notes due 9/9 and British policy video notes due 9/16.
9/1-9/5
This week we wrap up our States/Capitals and US Geography Quizzes with quizzes on Wednesday. Throughout this week students will be working on a project promoting one of the 13 colonies. This project has the option to be a group project and students have a choice of creating a travel brochure or an "Infomercial" as their final product. I am looking for students to use their creativity on this project along with their research skills.
8/25-8/29
Students have their 4th States/Capitals Quiz this week on Wednesday.
This week students will compare and contrast the settlements of Jamestown and Mass Bay Colony by looking at passenger lists and making historical hypothesis based on the information presented.
8/18-8/22
Students have their 3rd States/Capitals Quiz this week on Wednesday. Students will investigate the various reasons the Jamestown colonists did not survive the initial settlement. Students will have thier first major assignment this week responding to their investigation of Jamestown.
8/11-15
Students have their 2nd States/Capitals and US Geography Quiz on Thursday 8/14 this week. We moved the day to accommodate our trip to the media center on Wednesday.
This week, students will continue their study of the Columbian Exchange and it's impact on North and South America.
8/4-8/8
This week, students will be researching the various regions of the United States and creating a poster detaling the characteristics of their groups assigned region. Later this week, students will begin to investigate the impact the Columbian Exchange had on the Americas and Europe.
Reminder that students have States/Capitals Quiz 1 and US Geography Quiz 1 on Wednesday 8/6.

Welcome to Mr.Dunton's 8th Grade Social Studies class. This week we will focus on establishing classroom norms, protocols, and most importantly a classroom culture that promotes engagement, discussion, and learning. I am looking forward to a great year with the students.
