Welcome back for the 2023-2024 school year! Students have been gearing up for Career Day which will be on the morning of Friday, September 22nd.
In preparation, Student Council and NJHS have been helping to get the word out about Dress for Success. The goal of this aspect of Career Day is to help students understand that when in a business atmosphere, they are to dress differently than during school or social times, specifically when interviewing for a job.
Grade level teams will be helping students prepare for the Practice Interviews and the Business Expo. Students will create an introductory greeting (Elevator pitch) to use when meeting someone new. Teachers will share with them examples of questions they may have during their Practice Interviews. Students will complete Career Cluster Surveys to help narrow down who they will speak to during the Business Expo. This is definitely an exciting morning for the students and we couldn't do it without our volunteers!
Red Hat has joined us again this year for a wonderful "Lunch and Learn" opportunity for our 8th grade young women. A team of Red Hat women in STEm come once a month to meet with our students. Helping them consider all the possibilities their future holds! Thank you Red Hat!
Guest Speaker Highlight! Dr. Anna Plowman is bringing real world application to our Pet Vet classes! She has generously and graciously offered her time on a regular basis to come to each Pet Vet class. Discussing topics that relate to this great Magnet curriculum and the profession of veterinary medicine. We are so incredibly grateful for her volunteerism and willingness to share her expertise in veterinary medicine!
"Walking Field trips on the Move!" Student council headed to the City of Raleigh Museum to talk with Megan Raby, the Assistant Director of Museums. She shared with them the details the museum takes to create exhibits and plan for events. This helps to develop those leadership skills of our Student Council.
