Hello! My name is Mrs. Ledford and I am the media specialist at Mills Park. I graduated from Appalachian State University in 2002 with a Bachelor's degree in elementary education and in 2012 with a Masters degree in library science. I was a former classroom teacher for ten years and taught both 2nd and 3rd grade. I have been working as a school librarian since August 2012. I started working at MPES in January 2016.
I am looking forward to working with your child this year!

Mills Park students may check out the following number of books at one time:
Pre-K and Kindergarten-1 book
1st and 2nd grade-2 books
3rd, 4th, and 5th grade-3 books
All students have 2 weeks (14 days) to read and return them. There are so many books that are waiting for you to read.
What does it mean to put a book on hold? Placing a book hold means a student wants to wait for a turn to read a library book that is currently checked out. Students may place book holds by signing into their Wake ID Portal. Next, they will click on the Follett Destiny tab and search for books using the search bar. Finally, the student will click on the "HOLD" button to wait for a book.
How do I know if my book is ready to pick up? Students need to check their Destiny account on their Wake ID Portal. They should click on the tab that says "My Stuff" and then "Holds." The requested book(s) will say "Hold Ready" or "Hold Pending."
What does "Hold Ready" and "Hold Pending" mean?
HOLD READY: When a student requests an available book, the computer system tells them the hold is ready as soon as they click the hold button. This "ready" message sends the library staff an alert that the book needs to be pulled from the bookshelf. After getting an alert our staff will begin to locate the book(s). Our staff is working as quickly as possible to find the requested books, however it does take a lot of time. Please be patient.
HOLD PENDING: When a student requests a book that is already checked out, they will see "hold pending" on their screen. Once the book is returned, then they will be next in line to read the book. Many popular titles will have longer wait times.
Once a student sees the book is "READY" on their Destiny account, they should visit the Media Center to pick up the requested book(s). The book(s) will be held for ONE WEEK. After a week, the book(s) will be returned to the bookshelves.
1. My child has a book that belongs to the school library. What should I do?
Please return it to school as soon as possible.
2. Will I be assessed any extended overdue or late fines?
No! We do not charge any late fees. The only fees charged are for LOST or DAMAGED books.
3. When can I return the book?
MPES students may return books to school when they visit the media center.
4. What do I do if my child misplaces or damages a book?
If your child has lost a book we simply ask that you PAY for the book OR REPLACE it with the exact same title and format. If you lost a paperback book, then you may purchase the exact same title in a paperback form. If you lost a hardcover book, then you may purchase the exact same title in a hardcover form. The replacement copy MUST be in EXCELLENT condition.
Please email Mrs. Ledford at cledford3@wcpss.net with questions.
