Chromebooks are different from traditional laptops or desktop computers. A Chromebook primarily allows users to access the Internet to browse the web and to use most web-based applications.
NOTE: Programs cannot be installed on a Chromebook.
Your Chromebook has the following features:
Touch screen
Webcam
Two USB ports
HDMI port
Headphone/microphone combo jack
Incoming Freshman will be issued a Chromebook and charger at the beginning of the year. They will keep the device until they graduate.
If a student had a Chromebook at a Wake county school for middle school, the log in and password should be the same.
If a student is new the initial logins are student ID (Lunch number) for both username and password then follow the prompts to choose a new password.
If you still cannot log in to your Chromebook, don’t worry! Ask your teacher to reset your password or visit the Media Center and we will help.
Students are expected to bring a WCPSS-Issued Chromebook device to school with them daily for school work and testing. This also allows for any updates to be installed.
There is not a Bring Your Own Device Policy in place at WCPSS. Students are required to use their WCPSS Chromebook.
Bring a fully-charged device with you to class every day.
One device is issued to all students without cost.
WCPSS Testing Browsers require a WCPSS Chromebook in order to access them.
Tech Service Staff are not allowed to repair or assist with any student's personal devices.
Report any issues to your teacher or media specialist as soon as possible.
Do not remove your case from the device. It will crack the screen.
Take care of your device and keep it clean.
Label your Chromebook and charger with your name.
Use your device in accordance with the policies, rules, and expectations of WCPSS and MMHS.
If students forget their Chromebook, there are a limited number of devices that might be borrowed from the library media center. Students must leave their cell phone in exchange to use the device.
The care and guidelines document describes the proper treatment and use of your device.
If a student damages their device, we can try to repair or replace it. Students should come before school or at their lunch to turn in their Chromebook and request it being repaired. Students can receive one replacement device without penalty, per Wake district policy.
If there is a second case of damage, students will become a Day-Use Only user. This means they will need to visit the library media center to pick up and return their device daily by leaving their cell phone. However because we have a limited number of devices, we cannot guarantee your student will have one available to use.
