Meet The Teacher

Hi! My name is Mrs. Moore and I'm the art teacher at Morrisville Elementary School. I have been teaching in Wake County since 2015 and I became a National Board Certified teacher in 2024. My first year teaching art was at East Garner Magnet Middle School, and before that, I was a traveling art teacher in the Norfolk/ Virginia Beach area in Virginia with a company called Abrakadoodle.  When I was in high school and college I taught drawing classes to children with a company called Monart. I graduated from the University of North Carolina in Asheville where I received my Bachelor's Degree in Art (with a focus in printmaking) and a K-12 Art teaching license. I was also the lead children's program coordinator at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC for a few years before moving to Virginia. I grew up in the Cary/Apex area and I'm very happy to be back home in North Carolina.

When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, my 10 year old daughter Zoe (Who is in 5th grade this year on track 2), my 5 year old daughter Mya (Who is in Kindergarten this year), and my dog, Baxter and cat, Lily. I also really enjoy playing softball (I have been playing since I was 9 and I was one of the assistant coaches at East Garner Middle) and traveling to different places (I have been to most of the U.S., Singapore, Indonesia, China, New Zealand, and Mexico).

I like to teach a variety of art lessons which focus on different artists, art styles, or techniques. I love showing students how to manipulate various materials to create art and communicate their ideas. I like to find out what interests my students and use that to inspire their creativity. I enjoy being able to collaborate with other teachers and I encourage my students to work together to think critically and develop their problem solving skills. I think it is important to connect what the students are learning in the art room with what they are learning in their other classes. I teach my students how to "think outside the box" and to come up with their own unique and original ideas. I also enjoy teaching my students about different art and cultures from around the world.
