I love spending time with my family and traveling to places I've never been.
I like coffee and listening to audiobooks.
I'm left-handed and I grow lots of indoor plants!
I grew up across the state of North Carolina, from the mountains to the sea, and settled in the Piedmont when I attended the College of Physical and Applied Science at NC State. Go Pack!! I graduated with a B.A. in Chemistry and B.S. in Science Education. I started work for WCPSS at Wakefield High School, in North Raleigh, where I was selected Teacher of the Year in 2012. I also received a Kenan Fellowship during that time and was selected to work with WakeMed to develop curriculum for teacher to use across the state.
My family moved to West Cary when my son started kindergarten and I transitioned to Panther Creek High School where I taught for eight years. I served many roles in the school, including Science Olympiad coach and Student Council advisor. I was selected Teacher of the Year again in 2017. I earned my National Boards for Professional Teaching in 2019. During my high school teaching career, I taught multiple levels of chemistry, biology, earth science, physics, and forensics. I have a plethora of knowledge that I bring to the middle school level and am so excited to help my 8th graders get ready for high school.
This will be my fourth year at Mills Park Middle, teaching 8th graders! I was selected as Mills Park Teacher of the Year in 2023 and was honored as a district finalist for WCPSS Teacher of the Year. I was also a top 10 finalist for the Stars Among Us Award, recognized by WakeEd Partnership in 2024. I currently serve as the Science Olympiad Coach and Student Council Advisor, along with planning our yearly DC field trip. I am a lifelong learner and I currently serve as a North Carolina Science Leadership Association (NCSLA) Fellow and am working on a Masters degree in School Administration at UNC Pembroke. I'll be completing my administrative internship at Mills Park during this school year.
I believe that everyone has the ability to learn. Some just may need more time and support than others. I hope to push my students to grow their love of learning and instill excitement and wonder in each of our lessons. My goal is that they enjoy it so much that they want to tell others about it!
