About me

I grew up in Massachusetts and graduated from High School in 1989 (last of the 80s first of the future!) I received my Bachelor's of Science from Colby College in Waterville, Maine in 1993. I spent a few years working in research in Bar Harbor, Maine at the Jackson Laboratory, and then in a clinical setting in a Reproductive Endocrinology private practice as a laboratory technician in Rochester New York.  I received my Master's of Science in Biology from SUNY Brockport (Brockport, New York) in 2001.  After completing my degree, I stayed home with my 3 children until our youngest entered Kindergarten.  I came to teaching as a lateral entry teacher in 2010 at The Franciscan School as a 6th grade science teacher.  I then taught High School Earth Science and AP Environmental Science at Longleaf School for the Arts in Raleigh.  I began at Broughton in 2020 and I'm very excited to be teaching Honors Biology, APES, and IB Biology SL at Broughton High School.

I love the outdoors and am an avid hiker and runner.  I am assistant coach for Cross Country, and both indoor and outdoor track and field at Broughton.  I combine my love of the sciences and the outdoors by planning international travel trips for my students.  If you are interested in learning more about that, you can see more details about my early summer 2023 trip to Belize here.

I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you!
