(Returning 7th & 8th Grade Students). This is an informal drop in event that allows students to say a quick hello to their teachers, pick up their schedule, re-connect with old friends and meet some new friends. There will be Spirit Wear on sale too! Parents will pick up team information including teacher contact emails, websites, etc. Parents with any individual concerns or information to share with our teachers about their student will be given the chance to do so in writing and to set up further contact if needed. Note: LRHS is having their Open House from 4 - 6PM on August 22nd. Parking for our event may be limited right at 6PM but will clear up quickly. Additionally, having our event right after LRHS will allow parents with students at both schools to easily attend both events. ** Note, we were informed on August 12th that LRHS has changed their Open House to end at 7PM. This will significantly impact traffic on our campus.

6th grade students will be on campus all by themselves for a morning of information to help them transition to middle school. Lion Camp details here.

LRMS" 7th and 8th Grade students for the same purpose. This starts in the Media Center from 1:30PM - 2PM and then tours and meeting the teachers is open from 2 to 3PM.

Parents were invited to go to all of their students classes. This slide show was shared with all parents.
Reflection: This event was well attended by the 6th grade parents but not the 7th and 8th grade parents. Perhaps we should have a different format going forward for our 7th and 8th grade parents.

Raising Readers Book Club

What is the Raising Readers Book Club? It is a club for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students, their parents, and any Leesville Road Middle School teacher who wishes to join. How often does the club meet? We will meet once each quarter, so four times a year. We meet from 6pm-7pm in the school Media Center. Snacks will be provided. Research shows how important it is to still read with and to your middle school-aged student. Our book club encourages parents and students to read the same book and discuss it at home before we meet as a group to have some fun, family-friendly activities. Parents are not required to come, but we would love to have you. How do you sign up? You sign up by contacting Ms. Kaulfuss, the literacy coach. She will email you out reminders and a monthly newsletter that gives tips about reading. Her email address is ekaulfuss@wcpss.net. Club members purchase copies of the book selection for themselves.
Reflection: A couple of years ago a grant was secured to fund free copies of the book. If that could happen again it would cause the club to grow or perhaps we could pick a book we have copies of from before we had the EL curriculum.

Remote Learning
Remote Learning
Began officially on April 13, 2020 after we left school on March 13th for the COVID-19 Virus. Schools were closed for the remainder of the school year. With my focus on community engagement, the following activities were used in that respect.
One of the first things I did was create a Remote learning website for the Media Center

As the webmaster and Twitter person for LRMS having engaging and fun community building events became my focus. Daily I posted on Twitter and on the Website.
Calling all Leesville Lions.!!! We are proud to announce our “Trick Shot Challenge”. If you have a cool trick shot or difficult skill that you want to show off then now is your chance. This can be any type of shot or skill from any sport or using things you find around your house. Take a video of your shot/skill and upload the video to your Google Drive, then share with Coach Haymore or email the video to jhaymore@wcpss.net.

Spotlight on 8th Graders
We are creating a slide show to honor the 8th Graders from LRMS for the 2019-2020 school year because their in-person schooling for their 8th Grade year was cut short. Click through the images to see all of them or the slide show will run on its own. They are alphabetical by first name and will run until we return to school. Each picture is also tweeted one time.
