The first quarter's theme is getting to know the library. The students will learn how the library is organized and how to find books in each section of the library.
Kindergarten and First grade students will focus on book care and being responsible for library books.
Second Grade and Third Grade students will have a refresher on book care, library organization, choosing right fit books, they will be introduced to beginning novels, delve deeper into choosing right fit books, and they will start learning about the Dewey Decimal System.
Fourth and Fifth Grade students will also have a refresher course of book care, delve deeper into the Dewey Decimal System, they will study different genres, will be able to find any book in the library given the book's call number.
All students will participate in a genre study where they will explore different genres, what makes each genre unique and special, and they will start to appreciate different styles of writing and reading.
All students will also participate in digital citizen lessons. They will learn about a digital footprint, how to be responsible digital citizens, and will start exploring copyrights and how to give credit to original owners of digital and print media.
All students will participate in learning the eWISE research method. This includes the processes of Wonder, Investigate, Systnesize, Express with the small "e" focusing on evaluating information that is being gathered.
All students will learn about coding in the fourth quarter. We currently use Ozobots, Dot, Dash, Sphero, and Scratch coding in the Willow's Library. This year we will also be participating in Hour of Code.
