As I hope you felt when we were able to have our opening meetings in person, there is something digital arenas cannot replicate in the same way–connection. The same goes for our students and staff. Library programming can create meaningful opportunities for people to get together and share time, space, and interests. What will your library offer to students and staff this year?  -Kendra

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month! (September 15-October 15)

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we recognize and celebrate the richness of our country’s Hispanic heritage. We have compiled resources for you to use with teachers, students, and families as well as to inform your library programming and instruction. While we encourage activities, lessons, and resources inclusive of Hispanic and Latinx representation throughout the year, we take this opportunity to celebrate and learn. 

Update: Library Websites

First, let me (Kendra) apologize. We provided incorrect information regarding library websites at the Traditional Calendar Opening Meeting, and I am sorry for our error. Kristel and I have had several meetings with our partners in Communications, and we have sorted out the misunderstanding as well as a direction in which to proceed. Teamwork! 

KEY POINTS

1. You cannot link from your school's website to a library website you build to support student and staff learning. 

• The main school website is meant for the public and parents. It must meet very specific requirements for design and accessibility. You have a Library page on the website under Student Life. This should be home to basic information for the public/parent/guardian community.

2. We are working with Communications to resolve the issue you've reported about the Library Catalog button on the Library page not jumping to you school-specific Destiny Discover landing page. Give us time since that needs to be fixed for each school site with a unique link, but be assured, it will be done.

3. If you have a library website that you use with your students and staff to connect them with the curated learning resources you're using with them, you should link that website as a button in Learning Resources on your Destiny Discover page. If you need help, please reach out to Susan Johnson.

Give It A Try: Inktober

Illustrator and artist Jake Parker created Inktober in 2009 as a challenge to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year. 

Try it: Challenge your students to make a draw in pen (ideal) or pencil (totally fine). Maybe you provide them with small squares of paper at a passive programming spot in your library. You can either create daily prompts of your own or use the Official 2026 Prompt List. Post students’ completed drawings in the library as part of an Inktober display.
