One of November’s many themes and personalities is National Novel Writing Month. While the official NaNoWriMo organization shut down earlier this year, we can still use this time to focus on writing in the library. You might consider how you incorporate writing into your lessons with students, create writing centers as part of a station rotation, or have a thank-you note writing area in your library as part of your passive programming.
If you share illustrations without words, allow your students to write the story. If you share primary source images and photographs, allow your students to describe in writing what they observe. If you read the first sentence on the page, allow your students to write the second sentence and then pass to tablemates to write third, fourth, and fifth sentences as in a round.
This month and next, think about activating the 4 Cs (communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking) with writing. - Kendra

Secondary librarians, this is a friendly reminder to make sure that you're collecting data (Best Practices for Data) to reflect the multiple facets of your library program. If you need to support, reach out to Kristel.
If you requested iPads to assist with student activity tracking, Kristel has those iPads and will be distributing them. You can also schedule a time with her to swing by Crossroads II to pick up.
It's that time of year! Guidance for book recycling for 2025-26 is here. In case it's been a minute or if you're new, please refer to the linked document for recycling disposal of weeded library books, classroom books, and/or textbooks. If you have questions or are planning a larger weeding project, please reach out to anyone in Library Media Services first. Use us to help you navigate this work and to ensure a positive outcome. Our resumes should include "deaccession experts."
