Did you know? The likes of Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Matilda Joslyn Gage, and Susan B. Anthony, looked to the Haudenosaunee, the six nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, to see the possibilities of a society different from their own, a model of women’s rights. “The Six Nation Haudenosaunee Confederacy had, and still have today, a family/governmental structure based on female authority” (NPS.gov). In 1891, Stanton told the National Council of Women that Haudenosaunee women ‘were the great power among the clan, as everywhere else, . . . The original nomination of the chiefs also always rested with the women.’ [See linked article above for the full story.] -Kendra

Please join us in welcoming Susan Johnson to the Library Media Services team in the administrator role.
Susan is currently the data manager at Lake Myra Elementary, and her start date will be January 2, 2025. We’re excited by her wealth of experience, including as a media assistant at both Lake Myra ES and Knightdale HS. She’ll be stepping into the role previously held by Deb Bonner and Stacy Symes, and we know she’ll be an excellent fit for our team and for all of you.
Until January, please continue to send your questions and support needs to Susan B, Kristel, and Kendra. We appreciate your patience.
Digital Learning and Libraries is pleased to announce that we’ve moved from Technology Services to Academic Advancement. Going forward, our team consists of Allison Reid, Senior Director; Kendra Allen and Library Media Services; and Charles Patton and Digital Learning Coordinators. Our move is organizational and not physical; we’re still in our same spots in Crossroads II.
We are excited about the opportunities this change brings as we see potential growth in our collaboration with Academics colleagues. More information will come in the months ahead. As always, serving and supporting you, your students, and your schools is our highest priority.
November is National Native American Heritage Month. In honor of this observance, we have compiled resources for you to use with teachers, students, and families as well as to inform and support your library programming this season. While we encourage activities, lessons, and resources inclusive of Indigenous representation throughout the year, we take this opportunity to celebrate and learn.
Ready-made digital curriculum resources are available in Canvas for students and teachers in K-12 ELA, Math, and Social Studies through Blueprint Courses and Canvas Commons. New this year: Only quarter 1 content will be pushed to Blueprint Courses at the start of the year. Updated materials for quarters 2, 3 and 4 will be available, by unit, for teachers to import from Canvas Commons.

Professional learning can come in many forms, and it's possible you're someone who enjoys listening to podcasts. The 2024 Library and Book Trade Almanac: Facts, Figures, and Reports lists these library-related podcasts as suggestions. While most may not be specific to school libraries, there is tremendous opportunity to expand our practice when we examine our profession through a broader lens.
