Selection Criteria:
Represent varying viewpoints and provide a balanced perspective
Format, appearance, and durability suitable to intended use in the school library
High degree of potential user appeal and interest
Materials earn favorable reviews in standard professional reviewing sources including School Library Journal, Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) Notable Children’s Books, Booklist, Horn Book, YALSA Best Books for Young Adults, We Need Diverse Books website, and so forth
Provide a global perspective, promote diversity and include authors and illustrators of all cultures
Accurate and authentic factual content
Support and enrich curriculum
Balance cost with need
The MPMS Library subscribes to the statements and advocacy from the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights and Freedom to Read Statement.
