Students should be able to add and subtract within 20 using a number line. At home they can practice:Â
Drawing a number line with finger spaced dashes
Labeling numbers on the number line (each number should line up with a dash)
Using the number line to solve addition and subtraction problems using numbers under 20 (they should make a dot at their starting number, show the "hops" that they jump, and put a box around their answer)
Writing an equation that matches the problem they solved on the number line (ex. 7+8=15)
Students should be able to identify if a number is even. At home they can practice:
Looking at a set of dots (under 20) and circle them in pairs to determine if the number is odd or even
Using any given number to draw that many dots and then circle them in pairs to determine if the number is odd or even
Students should be able to add within 20 using the make 10 strategy:
Draw circles or build the first number in a ten frame(s)
Draw circles or build the second number in the rest of the ten frames
Identify the total by knowing you have 10 if the first frame is full plus the value of the second frame
