What are the student behavior expectations?
Students must be prepared to participate in SLRC practice each Wednesday and follow the school’s SPOT expectations. SLRC participants must demonstrate responsibility by attending SLRC practices, bringing all items needed to run, getting prepared to run at school dismissal, and listening, and following instructions. SLRC participants must demonstrate a positive attitude by being respectful to coaches and adult volunteers, speaking kindly to other SLRC students, and by giving their best effort during each practice.
What do I wear?
Students in the SLRC will need to wear running shoes, socks, shorts/pants (check the weather), shirt, and a watch with a timer (only if you have one). If students can wear his/her running clothes to school each Wednesday, it will make the transition to Run Club much quicker. Students who are not wearing appropriate footwear (sandals, dress shoes, etc) will not be allowed to run due to safety concerns.
What do I bring?
Students should bring with them to school any running clothes they are not wearing, a water bottle, a snack, and a positive attitude.
Where do I go after school dismissal?
If the student normally takes the bus, carpool, or walks home from school, he/she will remain at the school after dismissal to participate in SLRC. Students who normally attend the after school care program will need an After School Program Dismissal form.
Students are to remain in their classroom until they hear the Scrambled Legs Run Club called for dismissal. This time in class can be used to eat their snack, change into running clothes or shoes, use the restroom, fill water bottles, and any other preparations needed to get ready to run.
When students are called for dismissal for SLRC, they will receive instructions on where to go over the loudspeaker. Students who are tracked out should report to the main lobby by 4:00 pm and then meet at their check in hallway if they wish to participate in SLRC practice.
What if I am in After School?
After School students should report to the program as normal and will be dismissed to run club after role has been taken. After school, students will also be checked out through the After School program, not through run club.
What if I need to check my child out early from run club?
We will NOT be able to handle early check outs during SLRC practice sessions. Once students are out running, is will be hard to track them down to return them to the school for early dismissal from SLRC. If you know that a student will not be able to attend the entire SLRC practice, they should not attend practice that day.
How do I pick my child up from run club?
When picking up a child from SLRC practice, parents will meet the coaches outside the fence by the carpool loop. We would ask that you park and walk down to greet your student. At the completion of Run Club all the students will be walked over to the fence and then the coaches will start the check out process. Please note that parents MUST have a Photo ID or Check-Out Slip in hand to pick up a student at every practice!
After School students will be picked up as normal through the After School program.
What happens in the event of inclement weather?
In the event of inclement weather on a SLRC practice day, parents will receive an email by noon notifying them of practice cancellation. SLRC coaches will use weather predictions just before noon to make the decision to cancel or hold practices. If a SLRC practice is cancelled, students will be sent home after dismissal using their normal mode of transportation. If Run Club is able to be held indoors, due to weather, the same check out procedures will be in place but the location of the check out will be the front doors.
How can parents volunteer?
Thank you to those parents who have signed up as volunteers for this year's Run Club. We will be in need of both running and non running volunteers each week. If you would like to attend Run Club practices as a volunteer, please make sure to stop by the school immediately and register as a volunteer. All volunteers must be registered to be in the school. We appreciate all the help we can get to make this year a success. Coaches who are registered and signed up to volunteer should meet the team near the track behind the school each week.
What if I have questions?
Parents are encouraged to send a note with the child to communicate with SLRC coaches. Parents may also email HSESSLRC@gmail.com with questions pertaining to SLRC. Phone calls to the school related to SLRC should be only for emergency situations.
