What are the student behavior expectations?
Students must be prepared to participate in Chess Club each Monday and follow the school’s SPOT expectations. Chess Club participants must demonstrate responsibility by attending practices, being respectful, listening, and following instructions. Chess Club participants must demonstrate a positive attitude by being respectful to coaches and adult volunteers, speaking kindly to other students, and by giving their best effort during each practice.
What do I bring?
Students should bring with them to school a positive attitude and willingness to learn and help others learn Chess.
Where do I go after school dismissal?
If the student normally takes the bus, carpool, or walks home from school, he/she will check-in with their Chess Club coaches in the library. Students who normally attend an after school care program will need an After School Program Dismissal form.
Students are to remain in their classroom until they hear the Chess Club called for dismissal. This time in class can be used to eat their snack, use the restroom, fill water bottles, and any other preparations needed to get ready.
When students are called for dismissal for Chess Club, they will receive instructions on where to go over the loudspeaker. Students who are tracked out should report to the main lobby by 4:10 pm and then meet to check in to participate in Chess Club.
What if I am in After School?
After School students should report to the program as normal and will be dismissed to Chess Club after role has been taken. After school students will also be checked out through the program, not through Chess Club.
What if I need to check my child out early from Chess Club?
If you need your student picked up early from Chess Club, you need to contact the Chess Club and let them know a day in advance.
How do I pick my child up from Chess Club?
When picking up a child from Chess Club, parents must line up outside the building through the main entrance of the school. Students will be lined up in the hallways of the school during pick up. Please note that parents MUST have a Photo ID in hand or a Check-out Slip to pick up a student at every practice!
After School students will be picked up as normal through the After School program.
What if I have questions?
Parents are encouraged to send a note with the child to communicate with Chess Club coaches. Parents may also email HSESchessclub@gmail.com with questions pertaining to Chess Club. Phone calls to the school related to Chess Club should be only for emergency situations.
