The mission of the Heritage Middle School Student Services & Counseling Program is to provide a comprehensive, developmental counseling program addressing the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.  The HMS school counselors are professional school advocates who provide support to maximize student potential and academic achievement.  In partnership with other educators, parents/guardians and the community, counselors facilitate a necessary support system to ensure all students in Heritage Middle School have access to and are prepared with the knowledge and skills to contribute at the highest level as productive members of society.

Ms. Shari Swann 

6th Grade Counselor

Hello, 6th grade students and families! As the school year begins, I am excited to offer my assistance in helping your child transition from elementary to middle school. I am here to provide support and services to all students. Additionally, I am the Section 504 accommodation coordinator for all 6th-grade students. I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, earning a baccalaureate degree in Social Studies Education. I was awarded a Master of Education in School Counseling in December 2019. I have the experience, knowledge, and skills necessary to make your child's transition to middle school a smooth and successful one. In my free time, I enjoy practicing self-care, traveling, exercising, and reading. I am also a proud pet parent to a chihuahua. If you have any concerns or questions regarding academics, social or emotional needs, please feel free to reach out to me. I am here to help and support your child in any way I can. Mrs. Jilla Peasley

7th Grade Counselor


Hello 7th grade families!  I am excited to work with you and your student this year.  Seventh grade is such an important transitional year for students and I look forward to the support I can offer.  I love to travel, attend concerts, do activities outdoors and spend time with my family.  I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Tech University (Go Red Raiders!!).  I also hold a Master of Science degree in Biology from Texas Tech University and a Master of Education degree in Counseling from the University of Houston - Victoria.  This is my 20th year in education. I have taught high school science courses and been a high school counselor for over 15 years. 

I am very excited to be at Heritage Middle School and look forward to meeting your students individually as well as in group and classroom settings. Please let me know if I can assist you with anything regarding your student's social, emotional or educational experiences.  I look forward to supporting you and your family in the days ahead.

Mr. Febres

8th Grade Counselor

Hello to all the HMS 8th grade students and families. My name is Mr. Febres and I will serve as your 8th grade school counselor this school year. 

I come with 8 years of school counselor experience. Most recently I have worked as the 8th grade counselor at Rolesville Middle and 7th grade counselor at Pine Hollow Middle School .  Before that I worked for the NYC Dept. of Education as the lead counselor at P.S/ M.S 29.

I am originally from NYC and graduated from Lehman College as the vice president of the Chi-Sigma-Iota School Counseling high honor society. 

I am a proud husband, father, and dog lover. I enjoy playing video games, watching anime, traveling (when I get the chance), and watching movies/t.v shows. Also I am a Carolina Panthers, N.Y Yankees and WWE fan.

I am excited to be part of the HMS family and look forward to supporting 8th grade students/families in understanding the High School registration process, while also supporting students in having a positive school year.

Let's take everything "One day at a time" and we will get there!
