I grew up in a small dairy farming area in western NY. I moved to North Carolina after graduating from SUNY Fredonia and began my teaching career with the Davidson County School System. I taught special education and 7th grade Language Arts for four years while earning my Master's degree in Middle Grades Language Arts from Appalachian State University. In 2003, I moved to Raleigh and joined the Wake County Public School System teaching 8th grade Language Arts. For the next six years, I taught 6th and 8th grade Language Arts, AVID, Academy of Reading and Reading Enrichment electives. I completed coursework for my Academically Gifted certification in 2006. I am an "original Bulldog", having joined the inaugural HGMS faculty in 2010.
Married to another educator, Jared, (FVHS: World History), I spend a majority of my free time with our two kids, Addison (senior @ FVHS) and Drew (sophomore @ FVHS), who keep me busy. I love to read, watch my Buffalo Bills, and spend time with my family on local lakes on our boat.
This is my 27th year in education and I can't imagine doing anything else!
