AIG Overview

Nurture (K-2nd)

Green offers weekly nurturing and enrichment services for Kindergarten through 2nd grade students that demonstrate a need for more advanced learning. These services are offered for both English Language Arts and Mathematics. These students are placed into the Nurture program if selected by their current grade level professional learning team through assessment scores and classroom performance. These groups of students change many times throughout the year depending on each student's individual needs.

Explorers (3rd Grade)

The Wake County AIG Program supports another unique nurturing component for 3rd Grade called Explorers. The AIG teachers work in partnership with third grade teachers to plan a variety of experiences designed to elicit higher academic performance. More information will be given out during the 3rd Grade parent meeting!

It is important to note that students are not identified as AIG until 4th quarter.

3rd Grade Timeline

Quarter 1 - All  3rd grade students participate in the Explorers program with the entire class and/or small group instruction.

Quarter 2- The Explorers program continues in a small group setting.  CogAT testing will take place in October. All third grade students take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT).  Scores are returned for the CogAT and distributed to parents as soon as they are available. In December,  students who score at the 85th percentile on a subtest or composite of the CogAT take the Iowa Assessments, with parent permission.

Quarter 3 - Scores from the Iowas are returned and distributed to parents as soon as they are available.  The AIG Nomination/Referral/Identification Process continues throughout the quarter.

Quarter 4 - AIG service begins for identified students. Students receive services in ELA and/or mathematics.

AIG Services (4th-5th)

AIG pulled out services requires AIG identification. Direct instruction from the AIG teacher is provided for students who have been identified as gifted in English Language Arts and/or Mathematics. These meetings occur 1-2 times a week for a total of 45 minutes in each subject. AIG direct services are based on enriched grade level standards. AIG services are only available for latter half of second semester for 3rd graders and all year for 4th and 5th grade students.
