XC...? But What if I Can't Run Very Far?
The number one concern about running XC we hear from athletes is "I cannot run far or for very long." This is a valid concern... But, there is hope! Speed and agility are mostly genetic. Either you can move your arms and legs super fast or you cannot... and little can be done to change that. On the opposite side is endurance. Endurance is trained into an athlete. Literally, what is happening during endurance training is the heart and lungs get physically bigger and stronger, while building more energy producers and capillaries into your body. This gets more oxygen and nutrients into and out your muscles faster, while producing more energy to fuel your muscles. All of these qualities allow athletes to perform at a higher level, for a longer time, and to recover faster when a workout or game is done.
Given the proper training plan and enough time anyone can build better endurance (the ability to run farther) and speed endurance (the ability to carry fast speeds for longer times). On the same token, no one will ever wake up one day and just naturally have more endurance. It is earned by effort a day at a time, over the course of many years.

"I run to improve myself. I run to get faster. I get a rewarding feeling when I finally accomplish the goal I set for myself. I run to become more self-disciplined. Once, I hit a wall I work to push pass it. Lastly, I run to de-stress. Running is a great stress reliever, it gets your mind off of all the stressors and helps ease tension in your body" - Quote from a previous runner.
