Why participate in Falcon Book Battle?
The Falcon Book Battle encourages students to read good literature. The books are from a wide range of genres, characters, and award-winning books. We believe that one of the best things about participating in the challenge is reading and enjoying books that the students may not ever have chosen on their own.
How many books are the students expected to read?
Students must commit to reading at least 5 books (many choose to read more). There are 10 books on each grade level challenge list and the students have 6 months to read their assigned books.
Do we have to buy the books?
No. The books are available in the GHE Library and the Wake County Public Library. Quantities are limited and students might have to put in a request for the book if it is not immediately available. The GHE Book Fair in November will have copies of some of the books available for sale. Families may also buy them at a local or online bookstore.
Can I come and watch my child participate?
To be determined... last year we has parents observe virtually. As the date for the final battle gets closer we will determine if parents can come in to watch.
What can I do to help my child?
Help to obtain books and discuss the books with your child to help them comprehend the story and remember some of the important details of the story. Encourage your child to be positive with their team members and with the other teams. Make sure they are staying on-task of reading 5 books. And most importantly, make sure they are having fun!
