Are you interested in taking dual enrollment courses through Career & College Promise (CCP) at Wake Tech Community College (WTCC)?
Career & College Promise (CCP) is North Carolina’s dual enrollment program for high school students. This program allows eligible NC high school students to enroll in tuition-free college classes at North Carolina community colleges while still in high school. (While the tuition cost for classes is waived, students are still responsible for the cost of any books or materials associated with their courses.) Students who successfully complete these college courses earn college credit they can take with them after graduation in many cases.
CCP offers North Carolina high school students options to pursue educational and career goals of their choice using a rigorous yet supportive structure designed to help them become successful.
As a family, please watch the CCP Online Information Session. It is helpful in understanding details about the program.
CCP offers students the option to choose from these pathways:
College Transfer - Designed for students planning to continue their educational career beyond high school to eventually achieve an Associate or Bachelor's degree at a community college or university. -Use this link to decide which pathway best fits your college/career plans. (Click the dropdown arrow under Wake Tech Degrees to learn more about each pathway)
Career & Technical Education - Allows students to begin a certification or diploma program in a particular technical field or career area.
*Students can take up to two pathways, but if they do, one must be a Career and Technical Education pathway.
We recommend starting this program in the Fall of junior year. This provides 6 semesters to participate (Fall, Spring, and Summer of Junior and Senior years). Please use this link to determine eligibility in the program.
9th & 10th Graders may be eligible to participate. (See Can 9th & 10th graders participate in CCP? dropdown below for more information)
CCP pathways offer students rigorous and relevant coursework designed to engage their interests and help them achieve educational and career goals. For students interested in technical careers and post-secondary education, or at least exploring their options in this area, the courses they encounter as part of a CCP pathway will align closely with the level of work that will be expected of them after finishing high school.
In addition, research has shown that high school students who take college courses are more likely to attend and graduate from college with an advanced certification or degree. Finally, because CCP courses are tuition-free, the program also helps reduce the cost of a college degree, career certification, or diploma. CCP can make post-secondary education a viable option for students who may believe that the cost of college puts it out of reach for them.
It is highly recommended that students very seriously consider whether they are ready to take college level classes. Classes taken at the community college level count towards a student's college and high school GPA and could potentially impact acceptance at a 4-year college or university.
Please visit Wake Tech’s website to review their steps for applying. (New & Returning Students) The CCP New Student Application User Guide and CCP Continuing Student Form User Guides are helpful when applying. See the 8. How do I apply for CCP? section for additional information.
You will need a recent copy of your academic transcript for CCP. To request a transcript, please visit the following link. Please choose the College and Career Promise (Electronic Copy) option and it will be processed within 48 hours. See “How do I request a transcript” section below for additional assistance.
You do not have to drop a class at Felton Grove to take a CCP course. CCP courses can be taken in addition to your Felton Grove course load. Freshmen and Sophomores are not permitted to drop courses from their Felton Grove course load.
PLEASE NOTE:
Wake Tech’s calendar does NOT align with the WCPSS calendar. These are two separate institutions. There may be overlapping classes/dates at the beginning and end of semesters. Plan accordingly when registering with Wake Tech. Students are not permitted to miss Felton Grove classes to go to their CCP classes under any circumstances.
WCPSS does not provide transportation to WTCC classes. Students must have their own transportation if classes are in-person.
Each application requires a signature request from the school to verify that you are making progress towards your high school graduation and are in good academic standing. All students should list Jessica Merry, Dean of Students, (jmerry@wcpss.net) as the principal/designee on the Wake Tech Signature Request section of the application.
Failure to list the correct email address as well as sending multiple requests will delay your application being processed. Signature request forms submitted to other email addresses will be deleted.
All signature request forms and other applicable documentation (test scores, AIG documentation, underclassmen intentions request forms, etc.) need to be submitted to jmerry@wcpss.net.
Once Felton Grove receives course enrollment confirmation from Wake Tech, you will receive the following forms from Ms. Merry through the FGHS CCP Canvas Course.
This typically occurs 1-2 weeks after classes begin for that semester.
Forms Needed: (1) Dual Enrollment Agreement and (2) Felton Grove CCP Agreement Form. These forms must be filled out each semester a student takes CCP classes.
Do not send forms to your academic counselor. You will upload them to an assignment in the CCP Canvas course. (You will be invited to this course as soon as your signature request form is processed by Ms. Merry.)

The Pre-Calculus curriculum at Wake Tech is not designed to feed into our AP Calculus AB/BC courses here at Felton Grove (will be offered 2026-27 school year). Our AP Pre-Calculus course is specifically designed to prepare you for success in AP Calculus at Felton Grove. Students who pursue Pre-Calculus at Wake Tech must take a combination of 2 separate courses to meet the Pre-Calculus prerequisite for our AP Calculus course and even after those 2 courses, students may not be fully prepared for our AP Calculus courses at Felton Grove.
Yes. If you know that you would like to take Calculus 1, 2 or 3 at Wake Tech, you will need to fill out this Direct Placement Form. You can email the form to ccp@waketech.edu or you may attach it to your application. If you do not submit this form prior to self registration, you will not be allowed to sign up for a higher level math course as you will have not met the prerequisite. Please review the Direct Placement Form for necessary scores and requirements on what is needed to take a higher level math.
Students may take as many CCP courses as they would like. However, please keep in mind that balance is key. As a reminder, grades received from Wake Tech will impact a student's high school and college GPA.
Yes. High school students must earn all required credits in their College Transfer Pathway (Associate in Arts, Science, or Fine Arts) before they are allowed to take additional courses within their preferred associate degree program. Students will earn an associate degree after they earn all required pathway and associate degree program credits.
Review the Associate in Arts, Associate in Fine Arts, and Associate in Science Degrees Required Credits Document for a full list of course options once the pathway is completed. It is recommended to make an appointment with a Wake Tech advisor to plan out course options.

Yes. (This is how seniors are able to take class after graduation in June. They begin taking classes in May.) Per the CCP enrollment process, students who wish to take CCP summer classes are considered to be in the grade they are currently completing. For example: If a current high school sophomore wishes to apply for summer classes through CCP, they are considered a sophomore until they actually start their junior year and must therefore meet the 9th/10th grade application requirements to be able to apply for CCP summer classes.
Yes.
Eligibility Requirements
The student passed at least seventy (70) percent of the courses taken in the preceding semester; and
The student making sufficient progress toward meeting the academic and curricular requirements of the PSU and the State Board of Education to be promoted to the next grade level or to graduate within the next calendar year.
This means there is no longer a minimum of 3 classes taken in the previous/current semester in order to play sports. The key is that the student is on track to graduate and passing 70 percent of classes taken.
Yes. However, we recommend starting this program in the Fall of junior year. (Current Sophomore students will apply in the Spring for the Fall of the upcoming year). This provides 6 semesters to participate (Fall, Spring, and Summer of Junior and Senior years)
Instead of taking additional classes over the summer, we recommend spending time volunteering or getting a part-time job. Both look great on resumes and help build essential soft skills for the future.
It is recommended that 9th & 10th graders consider whether they are ready to take college level classes. Classes taken at the community college level count towards a student's college GPA and could potentially impact acceptance at a 4-year college or university. In addition, since early release/late arrival (at Felton Grove) is not allowed for underclassmen, they would be taking a college level course on top of their full high school schedule.
If 9th or 10th graders choose to participate in CCP, they must meet ALL admission eligibility requirements with approved documentation. These requirements are set by the NC Community College System, not WCPSS. Please reach out to a CCP staff member for more information about eligibility requirements.
Felton Grove High School can assist underclassmen in obtaining:
Existing AIG Documentation If you are already identified as AIG, please fill out the form to receive a copy of your current documentation. (If you are not currently identified as AIG, please reach out to your academic counselor to request AIG testing.)
Letter of recommendation from Principal Morrison. (See “How to apply as a 9th or 10th grader” section below for more information)
Complete the New Student CCP Application as normal through the CCP Wake Tech website. Once a 9th or 10th grader has completed the application and sent the signature request form to (jmerry@wcpss.net), fill out the Underclassmen Intentions Request Form to let us know what semester you are applying for. Once completed, Ms. Merry will work on getting your recommendation letter from Mr. Morrison.
Do Not Reach Out to Mr. Morrison or Ms. Merry for the recommendation. You must fill out the underclassmen intentions request form to receive the recommendation.
Summer and Fall Semester Information
Current Freshmen who do not complete the Underclassmen Intentions Request Form will not receive the required recommendation letter from Mr. Morrison, which is necessary to participate in CCP.
Current Sophomores who do not complete the Underclassmen Intentions Request Form will not receive the required recommendation letter from Mr. Morrison to participate in CCP during the summer term. Failure to complete the form will also delay approval for the Fall term.
FGHS counselors can assist with questions regarding academic/course requirements and scheduling options. Stop by Counselor Corner (table outside of Student Services) before school or during lunch with questions.
