Anxiety-Friend and Foe

Anxiety is a normal and healthy emotion that all of us experience. However, sometimes anxiety can reach unhealthy levels. In this session, we will explore strategies and resources that can help you and your child manage or avoid anxiety.


Digital Safety and Citizenship

This session will provide tips for support your student’s digital learning at home while practicing security. Topics will include but are not limited to safety, copyright, parent controls, monitoring texting, hidden chats and pages, social media, filters, etc.


Fostering Independence and Responsibility K-2

Does your child struggle with completing tasks without your help? This session will help you understand the importance of independence and responsibility at home and at school. You will leave with a list of suggestions to help your child build self esteem and confidence through independence.


Fostering Independence and Responsibility 3-5

Completing homework independently, being responsible for book bag contents, dead lines, getting to school on time, let’s not blame Mom and Dad for lost assignments! It’s ok to say, “No.” Learn some valuable strategies for how to promote self esteem, academic and emotional growth through building independence.


Getting the GIST of EL Reading Curriculum (2-3)

How has reading instruction changed in the intermediate grades? This session will focus on EL Education’s 2-3 curriculum to better understand the standards-based core literacy program and daily structure that engages teachers and students through compelling, real world content.

Has homework turned into a battle between you and your child? We will provide strategies to help homework time run more smoothly. This session will provide tools to help you create a positive and productive homework environment. You can facilitate homework time without a battle. You will win the war!


I Can Read it but Do I Get It?

“My child was an early reader and was reading Harry Potter before 3rd grade!” BUT...Can they discuss what they read with their peers? Can they express an opinion about what they read? Can they answer questions and make inferences? The goal of reading is to obtain meaning from written text. Let’s talk about how we can make that happen. This session is geared toward all readers K-5.

Letterland: Phonics Program for K-2

Join us as we jump into the most exciting phonics land out there! We will discuss the importance of all 44 sounds in the English language and the recurring spelling patterns. This session will provide strategies to best help you support your child’s phonetic and literacy development.

Come learn about WCPSS tech tools that are used at school and approved for learning at home. In this session you will also learn about Google Classroom and how to access your child’s digital portfolio.


What is SEL and Why is it Being Taught at School?

SEL is Social-Emotional Learning. Children need to be able to regulate their emotions so they can learn and grow. Come to this session to find out what we are doing here at Davis Drive Elementary. You will learn about Second Step, a program rooted in SEL that encourages students to thrive!
