How Do Counselors Help?
Classroom Lessons: Elementary counselors teach SEL (social and emotional learning) lessons in classrooms on topics such as coping skills, decision making, social awareness, career exploration, and bullying prevention.
Small Groups: Counselors may see small groups of 4-5 students to review topics taught in classes or offer additional support in an area of SEL that the student struggles with.
Individual Counseling: Counselors work with students individually as needed, or for a short term counseling. School counselors should not be confused with mental health professionals. We are unable to provided on-going or therapeutic services to students.
