About me

I grew up in Durham N.C. and attended Northern High School. After high school I chose to enlisted in the Army. I worked as multiple launch rocket crew member (13 Mike) and served in Camp Essayons Korea and Ft. Bragg N.C. after completing my obligations with the Army, I continued my military training as a legal specialist with the North Carolina National Guard in Washington, N.C. It was also at this time that I started my college career at East Carolina University. I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Exercise Sports Science with a focus in Sports Medicine and later a Masters in Health Education. 

After completing my education, I have been the head athletic trainer with East Wake High School 2000-2004 and Wakefield High school 2004 to present. (24 years!!!) It was the BEST decision I have ever made career wise. I love being a Wolverine! I currently teach Sports Medicine levels I-IV. In 2004, I started building a Sports Medicine Team at WHS which includes athletic training student assistants. Hundreds of student assistants have helped our athletes through the years and have been a part of many State Championship programs. In 2014, I started the first North Carolina chapter of the National Honor Society of Sports Medicine. Once the school day is over, I move to the athletic training room and athletic areas to take care of all the medical needs of our WHS athletes. My wife, Mrs. Dorenkamp, works with Cisco as a services delivery manager. We have 2 children, a puppy (Marley) and a cat (Lucy). Our daughter, Harper, is 6 years old and our oldest son is Cole who is 8 years old. They are actively involved in soccer, baseball and dance. There is never a dull moment with these two kids.  We love finding new restaurants and especially enjoy sushi. My wife is an amazing cook and I enjoy grilling. besides starbuck chi tea lattes I do spurge occasionally on Ike and Mikes and Reese peanut butter cups.
