CMS produces a full-length literary classic play each fall. I choose literary classics so students are introduced or re-introduced to the well-known books for children and people of all ages.
Auditions are around the second week in September and rehearsals are approximately 2 to 3 times per week after school. Audition packets are available the first day of school and include production and character information, audition monologues, and a parental permission slip. The cast and crew present three performances in mid-November.
Casting of roles is based on expression, stage presence, characterization, vocal projection, artistic discipline, voice, and age appearance/height. Artistic discipline includes listening & following directions, attending rehearsals, and getting along with others in auditions, current rehearsals, and the last Carnage show the student was part of.
Crew packets are always available in mid-September and include production information, crew positions, and a parental permission slip. There is one crew for both play casts and the spring musical. Various crew positions include 2 Stage Managers, Tech Booth Coordinator, Running Crew Coordinator, Sound, Lighting, Followspots, Props, and Running Crew. The Tech Crew begin rehearsals begin in mid-October.
