This course provides instruction that focuses on integrating biological / physical sciences with technology as related to the environment, natural resources, food production, science and agribusiness. Topics of instruction include agricultural awareness and literacy, leadership and FFA, employability skills, and an introduction to all aspects of the total agricultural industry. Supervised agricultural experience programs and FFA leadership activities are integral components of the course and provide many opportunities for practical application of instructional competencies.
Horticulture I
This introductory course provides students with foundational knowledge and hands-on experience in the horticulture industry. Topics include plant anatomy and physiology, plant propagation, growing media, greenhouse operations, pest management, and landscape design. Students will gain practical skills through laboratory and greenhouse activities, and will explore career opportunities in horticulture. Leadership development through FFA and supervised agricultural experiences (SAE) are integral components of the course.
Horticulture II
A continuation of Horticulture I, this advanced course deepens students' understanding of the horticulture industry with a focus on landscape maintenance, greenhouse crop production, floriculture, and turfgrass management. Students will engage in more complex hands-on activities and projects, including plant identification and design implementation. The course emphasizes workplace readiness and leadership development through FFA and SAE projects, preparing students for careers or further education in plant science and horticulture.
Animal Science I
Animal Science I introduces students to the basic principles of animal agriculture. This course covers topics such as animal anatomy and physiology, breeds and species, animal nutrition, health and behavior, as well as safety and handling practices. Students will gain hands-on experience with livestock and companion animals, explore careers in the animal industry, and participate in leadership development through FFA and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs.
Animal Science II
Animal Science II builds on the foundational skills learned in Animal Science I, with an emphasis on advanced topics such as animal reproduction, genetics, biotechnology, meat science, and herd health management. Students will continue to apply hands-on skills in animal care and production, analyze real-world agricultural problems, and explore career pathways in veterinary science, animal production, and animal research. Continued participation in FFA and SAE development is encouraged to enhance leadership and career readiness.
