An internship is an experience in which a high school student takes a responsible role as a worker in a company or organization and then reflects on the experience. Internships are for juniors and seniors and must be at least 120 hours. Students will earn a credit (1) for the internship. Students may earn up to a maximum of (2) internship credits with (2) different internship locations. Honors credit is available. Interested students should work with their counselor and internship coordinator to begin the application process.
How to apply for an internship:
First determine the area in which you would like to complete an internship. If you are not sure of an area, you may want to complete one or more career assessments to help guide you to an area. For an assessment, see the "Career Planning" page within the WYMLA Career Development Services website.
If you wish to take the internship in lieu of another class, check with your counselor to determine whether you are on track to graduate.
Find an organization/company that is willing to allow you to complete an internship.
Complete the following forms (see Ms. Dixon) to be considered for an internship:
Internship Application (student, parent and Career Development Coordinator signs).
After meeting with the company/organization who will host you, fill out the Internship Agreement with the organization's sponsor/mentor and have the mentor sign, you sign, and your parent sign.
Return all forms to Ms. Dixon.
Once you have met with Ms. Dixon, you will then complete other forms provided to you in the WCPSS Internship Guide.
