Vocal Music Auditions
All course registrations are placeholders until auditions are completed. There are no “cuts.” There is an ensemble for everyone to sing in!
Current Broughton chorus students will audition in class for next year’s ensembles.
Mr. Michalec will host an audition workshop for middle schoolers and new Broughton singers on Thursday, March 26, from 3:00 - 4:00.
Auditions will be held for incoming 9th graders and all other students in person at Broughton on April 7, 14, and 15, 2026 from 2:30-5:00.
Auditions will consist of a short prepared piece, tonal recognition exercises, vocal technique exercises, rhythmic reading, and sight-singing. Video auditions will also be accepted. Students wanting to audition for an honors class are strongly encouraged to audition in-person.
In addition to (not in place of) the prepared piece, auditionees may also sing a song of their choice that they feel showcases their voice.
Rising 9th Graders and Current High Schoolers with No Chorus Experience
All rising 9th graders and current Broughton students who have never taken chorus should sign up for the “Novice” level.
Current Vocal Music Students
Current students will register for their current level until placement auditions are conducted. Mr. Michalec will adjust levels accordingly with student services.
There are NO "cuts" and everyone who auditions is placed into one of our choral music classes.
The audition is to determine voicing and current musical development to ensure all students are placed into a class that a) suits their needs as a musician and b) ensures that we have balanced ensembles.
