Check Powerschool weekly for updated grades. Your teen has access and can show you, or if you would like a parent login, please contact the school directly for your own access by emailing Jennifer Pendergraft.
Help your student reach out to teachers for support if needed. I will be using Remind 101 for students, which sends texts directly to their phones or email. Students should use my posted office hours for additional help (check their Syllabus on their course page using the Class Pages link above).
Check your teen's Canvas courses with your student frequently. It helps scads to sit with your teen from time to time and look over their work.
Contact the school (attendance office) and teachers if your student is sick and unable to attend school.
Teenagers will need to establish a daily routine. They need to stay on top of checking their school emails, the "to do" lists within the Canvas courses, and keeping organized in a way that works best for them. YOU may have to help with this. With more tech tools, students often get "fatigued" and check out of staying on task. Teachers give lots of tools, but it's up to your teen to take the action, effort and stay motivated.
For the love of all that's holy, PLEASE understand most teens are addicted to their technology. Not sure if your teen is one of these kids? In my experience, if a teen is maintaining a high B or A, they have a "delay of gratification" problem when it comes to staying off their phones and focusing. YOU can help with this more than schools. Please don't assume school have found some magic way to keep thousands of students off their addictive devices.
