I was born and raised in Huntersville, North Carolina. This is where many generations of Cooks raised dairy cow, as well as crops such as corn, soybeans, and grains. I started working on the farm when I was 8 years old, and I continued to work on the farm until I graduated high school.
After graduating high school, I attended NC State (Go PACK!!!) and earned Bachelor's degrees in Biological Sciences and Secondary Science Education.
I got my first teaching job at NC State in 1999, then I moved to Apex HS the following year. At Apex HS, I taught Biology, Physical Science, Environmental Science, and Anatomy/Physiology. I also helped to start and coach the lacrosse team.
I transferred from Apex HS to Apex MS in 2001. Since I joined the faculty of Apex MS I have taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science. I moved to my current position in Technology Education in 2013, and I plan to stay in this position until I retire.
In addition to teaching, I have coached football and robots at Apex MS. One of my most proud moments at Apex MS was when my robotics team won the NC Vex Middle School Excellence Award in 2015, and when we won the NC State Robotics Tournament Championship in 2019. This is the highest award that can be earned by a middle school robotics program.
I returned to college in 2008, and I earned 3 degrees from East Carolina University. I now have a Master's Degree in Instructional Design, and two Master's Certificates in "Computer-based Learning" and "Administration of On-Line Learning."
I am a life-long Scouter. I earned my Eagle Scout when I was in my teens, worked at a Scout Camp, and I am the Assistant Cub Master of Pack 205 in Apex. I strongly believe in the principles of the Boy Scouts, and I work to integrate the points of the Boy Scout Law into my daily life. By the way... I am a certified councilor for Woodworking, Woodcarving, Robotics, and Chess Merit Badge. Let me know if you are interested!
My family enjoys spending time together outdoors. When we have the opportunity we go hiking, fishing, white water rafting, and many other activities (this includes PokemonGo).
