AFHS Special Education Department:

Structure and Purpose-

Apex Friendship High School's Special Education Department is made up of 3 branches:

-Future Ready Core Classes-including Consultation services, In-Class Resource (co-taught) classes in math and English, Academic Curriculum Assistance classes, and Autism/Behavior Support Curriculum Assistance Classes.

-Occupational Course of Studies classes.

-Extended Content Standard classes.

Each branch of our department works with students, colleagues and parents to best meet the academic, behavioral and functional needs of our students.

We provide support for our students through:

1-classroom instruction and modification

2- goal work and monitoring

3-accommodation administration and support

Plan Support-

-We provide plans, incuding Individualized Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans, to students' teachers to ensure that goals and accommodations are being addressed in the classroom.

-We ensure that all plans are reviewed in a timely manner and adjusted to best address students' needs in the academic setting.

Case Managers-

-Students are assigned a case manager upon entry to AFHS and the case manager collaborates with the student, the students' teachers and the students' families to ensure that the students' needs are met.

-For most students, the case manager will partner with the student for all 4 years at AFHS.
