Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does Key Club do?

A: Our Key Club members serve our community in many ways. We volunteer at local community events and organizations, such as Miracle League, Brown Bag Ministry, and Simple Gifts Garden. We also donate items throughout the year, such as canned food in the fall, warm coats, blankets, and toys in the winter,  and other items our community needs. Lastly, we make new friends by volunteering with our peers and planning fun outings with other Key Clubs in our area.

Q: How do I join AFHS Key Club?

A: In order to be a member, you must apply at the beginning of the school year. There will be an interest meeting and a strict application deadline that you must meet. You must also pay club dues.

Q: What if I'm unable to apply before the deadline?

A: You will need to wait until the following school year to apply. We receive a lot of applications and it takes a lot of time for officers to look through them all.

Q: What happens after I'm accepted?

A: After you receive an acceptance email, you'll need to turn in your $20 dues on the by the set deadline.

Q: When does Key Club meet?

A: Key Club normally meets every other Friday at 2:30 PM in the cafeteria. The only exception is when the school calendar does not match with our desired meeting dates.

Q: How is it possible to meet the required 50 hours of service per year?

A: 50 hours might seem like a lot, but our project committee members and class representatives do an awesome job finding/creating lots of opportunities in order to fit everyone's schedule. Service opportunities are scheduled throughout the week, as well as the weekend. Be sure to check our events calendar and Google Classroom.

Q: Can seniors join Key Club?

A: Students must be involved in Key Club before their senior year to join the club. 1st-time senior applicants will not be accepted unless they are new to AFHS.

Q: What if I served less than 50 hours of service last year?

A: AFHS Key Club receives hundreds of applications every year and it is important that members are dedicated to volunteering within the community and work hard to meet requirements. Members are provided ample volunteering opportunities, so there is no excuse for not meeting membership expectations. Any returning member with less than exactly 50 hours will not be accepted.
