Digital Literacy is the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information, requiring both cognitive and technical skills.
In today's society, it is critical for students to be able to use the vast amount of technology available to them. Computer literacy will provide students with skills they need to succeed in the technological age. The purpose of Louisiana's Digital Literacy Standards is to support districts and schools in building students’ digital literacy by authentically incorporating technology into instruction at every grade level.
The Louisiana Digital Literacy Standards are easily integrated with your existing standards. For example, if you typically assign a journal entry or essay to your class, you can now assign it using Google Docs and integrate several of the Digital Literacy Skills. Louisiana's Digital Literacy Standards are broken down into the following categories by grade level and skill:
Additionally, each skill is labeled O, I, R, M. O is an Optional skill at that grade level. I is an Introduced skill at that grade level. R is a Reinforced skill at that grade level, and there is a good chance it is only the second year for the student. M is a skill the students should have Mastered by that grade level.
The Louisiana Digital Literacy Standards are found on the Louisiana DOE website, but we also saved them for you here: Louisiana Digital Literacy Standards
